New Years: Spent it with Gary, Eric, Andrew, and Jonathan. Watched fireworks in the neighborhood and watched the first WonderWoman series. Played Zombies and Generals.

Jim seems to be having trouble finding a job in NO. But he is doing ok I guess. His cat is through with all the surgery so Gypsy will go back with him next week.

This weekend, I went to visit Gary. Luke came over and we watched "Bullshit". It is a Penn and Teller show that came on Showtime. They make fun of everyone that I have always thought deserved it. Alien Abductees, people who claim to have ESP, tree hugers, Nostradamus zealots, male enhancement methods, John Edwards and the like, bottled watter drinkers, self-help classes, intelligent design evangelists, Fungshui (sp?) scientists, and my favorite pet peeve "Magnet Therapy".

Eric came down and Jonathan came back home the next day. We didn't do much. But I saw a very odd movie. "A Home at the end of the World" I am curious what the book is like.

Christmas was fun. Not really any good presents, but it was mostly peaceful and everyone seemed happy. Got to see my uncle's house (or was it a mansion) and his BF. They throw parties all the time for all sorts of rich people. Everyone else in the family was the same as usual.

David came over after Christmas and saw my big airsoft gun. His grandmother bought him one after the begged for it. Verusca Salt should come immediately to mind. "I want one, now!"

And the best part of christmas. 70 degree weather.

I had a good visit with my dad a few days ago. We fixed my car's window and refrigerator. And we of course had fun with the airsoft and paintball guns. From half way across the yard, I got 10 for 10 on a paper plate.

Jim just took his cat to the vet cause it was up all night sneezing.

We had the annual breaking party yesterday. Lots of fun. And not enough concrete to break.

The Mini airsoft guns are great! I should have gotten those for everyone.

Oh, and since they haven't gotten rid of the Patriot Act yet, I will encrypt the rest of my entry.
I got my gun in and have been playign around with it. I havn't done too many accuracy tests with it. But it certainly empties the 150 round magazine way too fast. Accuracy seems to be much lower on automatic than semi. The shots also go to the left, probably because of side spin.

A guy at work loaned me his paintball gun. It seems very nice. I had to get new paintballs but the co2 bottles at least have some air in them. I am curious to see how far 200 shots last. We shot it a few times at work and the guys seemed prety excited about it. I was amazed at the accuracy. And how hard the paintballs were.

My dad is coming down this weekend. We will go out and shoot all the guns a lot I supose.

Jim found a place to live in New Orleans. He also wants a cat (since the old one ran off and only sometimes comes up to the window and hisses at people inside) So hopefully I we can go down to the shelter and I can get him one for a Christmas present.

I made a big hex map for the Rocketmen game last night. Tonight I need to make some planets.

I can't wait to give Gary his presents. Expecially the Z*****!!! game. I have found the new rules for it so the game will only last 1 hour rather than 4.

(I just calculated that paintball is about 10 to 20 times more expensive than airsoft per shot. Guns are only about 2 times the cost.)

3D and Airsoft

Just ran across a cool 3d site. http://worshiptheglitch.com/2005/12/3d-without-glasses.html . I can't believe how good this looks. Actually I have been dong this for some time but only as a guide to line up images, not as the final product. Why is it that when someone else does something it looks good, but when I do something it looks crappy. Although, now that I think about it, my way of using two identical monitors to show 3d animations was still prety good. If I had a web site I might just upload a write up about it.

The big news! Since my dad is just going to give me money for xmas day, I went ahead and tried an airsoft gun. (a Taurus PT92 Softair Electric Blow Back Pistol Clear) I knew I would only want one pistol, so I baught a good one. I bought it at wally-world if you can believe it. It is awsome. It only holds 16 rounds, but that is the most any of the pistols hold. George from work came by and I was showing him my gun, and I told him to shoot at the far fence. He aimed upwards at about 30 degrees thinking he would compensate for the trajectory. Naturally the shot went over the neighbors house.
Since I liked it soo much, I went ahead and ordered a high powered, high capacity gun. (a UTG NAVY SEAL MP5 A4/A5 AEG Airsoft Gun V2.0) I don't think I will be shooting that in the house.

Oh quick story. I was making a BB trap a few nights ago, and it was cold outside. I also was running out of glue for the glue gun. I was almost done and dind't want to go outside, so I thought I could just press on the glue stick with and object of some kind to get the last bit of the glue out. Ah, a sharpie would work. Later I was burning some music to listen to in my car, but I couldn't find anything to write with. Where did that sharpie go? Oh well. (wait for it) Later I realized my BB trap need a few changes so outside I went for more glue sticks. Alas, I found what was left of the sharpie still in the glue gun. It was the right shape so that it continued to feed into the gun while I was trying to finish up the project quickly. Certainly this counts as the stupid mistake of the month.

speling riform #9 and #10
first, ay canged may maynd about "c". ay hav disayded to us "c" in plas of "k".
And it wasn't even in a casket. Oh well. I finally got to see Goblet of Fire. And in a lot of way I thought it was better than the book. I didn't get to see any blast-ended scroots, but the dragon and grendilos were certinly scary enough.

I am sure that I saw at one point Mad Eye Moody with a white ferret on his lap. WTF?
Heavy metal at at the Hogwarts ball? (If it had been the transsiberian orcherestra then it would have been ok)
"Head filled with saw dust" Kinda harsh don't you think.
"You ruined everything" Best line in the movie!
Ok, so Moody has a zoom lens in that "magical" eye. Doesn't sound too magical to me. What is supposed to be? A Cyborg?
Voldemort would have been ever scarrier if he has more than 5 followers!!!! Perhaps they should have kept the whole "the dementors are our natural allies" line. "and the Giants will ally as well" would have helped further. (also a point from the book. Why does he say the names of the Death Eaters? No wonder so many are in Askaban. As truth serum to any one of them and you can round up the whole lot.)
And why a trial? Truth serum time! Pour in the whole bottle why don't ya, too.
Dumbledore was fierce. That was cool.
Hey I know how you can tell if someone is under the Imperius curse. Their eyes turn white!! Duh.

Ok, enough of that. I have been looking into 6mm paintball guns. That looks like fun. Cheaper and less painful that the more common ones. And most are even electric. Too bad most of the good ones look exacally like the real guns. Supposed to make it more real feeling and so more fun. Yeah, when the neighbor call the cops on you chaseing someone with a machinegun, then it will be more fun. Oh, most of the guns don't have orange tips either. How is that legal? Perhaps it is classified as a real gun, or can't be used by anyone under 18 or somthing.

Riddle: What word is pronounced diffrently depending on the captilization?

Spelling Reform #3, #4 and #5
Three for today sinse they are soo simple. First, there wil be no more apostrifies(however you spel that). Soo, one would say "Have you seen Rayans new paintbal gun." Instead of "Rayan's" That goes for kontractions also. Its now "Aint" instead of "Ain't". Its "Its" instead of "It's". And "Khris'" wil become "Khrises". Next, nothing wil be kaptilized. yep. nothing. thank god. and finaly, no silent ks nor gs. nights and nats wil rejoise everywhere.

Birthday, Thansgiving and Rent

Went swimming for an hour Friday since no one was at work. No one was at the pool either. Went again today. Again empty. I definatly need to find someone to go with me.

I got Go from Jim for my birthday. I have played it a few times already. At least the rules are simple enough for most people to play. I baught for myself D&D Basic. Once I get the rules down, I hope to get some people to play it with. Shoudn't be too hard to do. I also got Syberia II for $10. Yaa.

I slao got Soduko as a card game. I played it some on Thanksgiving. No news there. Got some pants from my mother. OOOOh, I look sexy now. I mean even more so than before. :)

I got a free ticket to see a movie. I was forced to see Rent with my friends. I would rather have seen Harry Potter that time and gone again when someone else went with me. But no. So here is my rant about Rent.

Rent is the reason most poeple hate musicals. Now, musicals fit into diffrent categories. There are the Disney-esque musicals when every once in a while the characters will sing a sone based on what just happened in the movie. The songs are fairly surreal and the plot does not progress. There are the Mulon Rugue-esque musicals where the characters do sing but it is not in a musical number; the lines are musical number but are contained within the movie. This is the same when a character swings awaround a lamp post trying to woo a girl by singing a song. THEN there are the Rent-esque musicals. In these abominations, the characters have mormal conversations but seem for somereason have to put their lines to music. This makes for very poor songs, because regular speech doesn't make for good lyrics and this makes for poor dialogs because the words spoken have to have a certain rythem.

What makes matters worse for Rent is that the characters know that they are singing. Not so in Little Shop of Horrors nor in Disney movies. We know the characters are really singingg and dancing because the extras are claping their hands and stomping to the music. Note the extras never sing however. This is because only the main cast has the talent to make an impromptu song.

Now, I have one more point to make about that movie. I was told it had a drag queen in it. Oh god. Not another one of those. But what is this! I actually liked that drag queen. I did. I almost imediatly knew why too. Drag queens are expected to sing and dance. Even in real life. They (the good ones) flail their arms and sing songs without a care in the world. So when the cast was claping and stomping their feet, I coudl see that it was entertaining. But then the straight preople in the cast (or straight looking, since they were all gay) tried to sing, it only came out as looking umm. how should I say. queer. I say. sit down an let the drag queen show you how it is done.

Oh YEAH! I bet! I know for a fact that I have color ink. Did it run out before of after that last (flawless) page, Huh?

"EPSON recommends the use of genuine EPSON ink cartridges. Use of other products may cause damage to your printer not covered by EPSON's warranties."

Well, I am not going to pay another $35 for $2.50 worth of ink.

You see, boys and girls. The evil printer manufacturers put little micro chips in the ink carteradges so that the printers can tell if you overpayed for your ink. And only if you did overpay, will the printer work. The chips are supposed to allow you to see how much ink you have left and it will tell you when you are out and need to speend 500 gazillion spacebucks for more. But actually they don't tell you how much ink you have left. The chips can't measure how much ink is actually left, they kind of count down. And they are always conservative by saying there is no more ink left while there is still ink left! You could throw the chips into vats full of ink and they would still say "Printer out of ink". Now go study your english for today. Todays lesson is "The bandage was wound around the wound".

Warhammer's plastic aliens and the Crypt Lord's paper zombies

Well, I broke down and finally bought a Warhammer 40k game. It was a starter set so it didn't cost much. Naturally though, if I ever want to add anything to the game it will cost alot. If the game turns out to be fun then I might. But mainly I wanted A) mini-figures to paint and B) rules for a slightly complicated grid-less boardgame.

I am still interested more in the rpg-quest type of games. I made myself a HeroQuest board and have printed out the rule book and some other items for it. Still, I knew my duengeon would look kinda lame. Like in CLUE. It never really felt like you were playing inside a big mansion. So as I was surfing around trying to find some paper orcs and skeletons to cut out, I ran across a very well done cardstock dungeon at worldworksgames.com. Wow, I like my job but I would like to work there too. So anyway, I got the dungeon set and now I am going to try to print out enough walls to make a good board to play on. If I can get enough people to play it with I might get the castle and caves set to go with it. Neat!

I decided to make everything on the 1" scale instead of 1.5". I woudl have like to have been able to use my HeroScape minis, but I think the board would have just gotten too big.

Oh, they also had some city sets too. I am going to look up some rules for a zombie game. Perhaps that will be another possibility.

The Karate competitionwas cool. I should have competed. Although I am sure I would have lots. At least now I know how much more I need to practice.

I have one little problem with swimming. Well, I was swimming along and I realized it would be lots and lots more fun if I didn't have to come up for air like every 10 seconds!

Oh, and I am making a Heroquest game board with all the pieces and quests. Anyone want to play? Anyone? *sigh* Didn't think so....

(On a side note. I will rant aobut this later. But why is "making" not spelled "makeing". Where did the e go? Is is now prnounced "mak-ing"? No. Then why change the spelling? Because the dipthong "ae" is the same as "ai"? Is it? Cause that would be good to know.)

Cool!
Heroscape Minis

I once saw some people playing Warhammer 40K. Nice looking game but I am betting it took a long time to play a game. I played a game like it once. It had lots of little figures spread over an area the size of a ping pong table. Or was it larger? Anyway, we did not finish the game that night. Although I am sure it wouldn't have taken as long as an Axis and Allies game. Good grief. (Boardgamegeek.com says Warhammer takes 120minutes to play. Fair enough.) I would like to play Warhammer one day but I doubt I will ever have enough boardgammers together at once. And the price! Good grief those figures for the game are terribly expensive.

A few weeks ago, when Ger was in town, we stopped by ToysRUs and got that new UNO game. (Ehhh) I saw this very large game called HeroScape. I was hopeing it was simular to HeroQuest since it was so fun. Like D&D but more like a board game. Really good quests too. ToysRUs at the time had a 2for1 sale. Yep you guesed it. For that price I just had to try it. (Since I got two sets.) Now I am kicking myself for not buying the expansion sets that day too. I did not realize I would like the game so much. I thought the game would too tedious to ever play much. But it is soo simple. If you have ever played Mechwarrior as a poard game you would understand my skepticism. With Heroscape, there are no tables to look up. No sheets to keep track of stats. The combat is similar to Risk. Roll dice and men die. But there is no upkeep. The only thing to do between turns is deciding the order to move your men.

Now that I think about it. That whole (30 second process) can be eliminated for the most part. The the game boils down to "I move and attack. You move and attack. Repeat." Gosh. I bet the game could be played in 15 minutes that way.

While RISK is a good game. The immersion factor is not there. It is hard to imagine that those little roman numerals are actual armies. (ok, now they are represented by little army guys. but still.) But like Warhammer, there is visually a little war going on. The big dragon is actually a big dragon; just to scale. Of course it is on a hex grid, but at least I don't have to get out a measuring tape for everything I do.

So that brings me to the minis, the little army figure guys. I want more. I want lots more. I want to make my own heroes and squads. So the next time I to a gaming store (wish we had something like that in town) I am going to get some minis. I am hoping I can get some cheap plastic unpainted ones. The real Heroscape figs cost about $1 or less. I saw some for about $4 each. (too much I say. although I saw some warhammer figs for $70 each. made of metal. but who cares. yikes! I hope I saw the price wrong.)

I once had Heroscape and I painted lots fo the minis. I lost the game somehow, but now I am excited to have the chance again to do the same with an equally cool game.

Jim is going to FL to help Zane move back here. It'll be nice to have him back here event hough I don't know him well. It'll be nice considering how few people I know around here anyways. Anyone for HeroScape? No, did't think so.

Hmm, I wonder if the house will be spooky with no one here. I imagine it will be. So, no scary movies for me for the next few days.

Oh, I am trying to build a big smoke-ring gun. The prototype worked well. So today I built it out of polyfoam. Tomorrow I suppose it will be time for the stand and firing mechanism. I tried a different opening other than just the circle hole. It seems I can make the rings wobble but still go pretty far. They look very spooky that way. This might be a better Halloween prop than I anticipated.

My mother thought witches believe in the devil. I dont' think so said I.

Back to swimming for tomorrow. Weeeeee.

and might learn Krav Maga with Nova. That should be fun.

Over the past few years I have been adding to my haunt little by little. Last year I had 6 fence sections, a few big tombstones, a coffin, spooky music, and a fog chiller. This year I added a lightning machine and more fence including 2 pillars for the cemetery gate.

The lightning machine flashed two 500watt lights housed in the pillars. The circuit was a two channel color organ type of thing running off of a $9 cd player. Since I only had one opto-isolator, I struggled up until the last minute trying to fabricate a replacement. I ended up destroying the one I had. But just before giving up I realized a simple relay would suffice and would actually produce a better effect.

My costume this year was fairly simple; a hooded cloak with lining and a tunic with two purple metallic long shoulder armors with a simple wide belt. I had bought a small plasma ball and wanted to do something with it. I ended up putting it on a staff. The batteries and circuit board were kinda large so I had to use 1 1/2 inch pipe, which turned out ok. The staff dictated the look of the rest of the costume.

"What are you supposed to be?" people asked. Well, I guess I am a guy with a rain coat and a plasma ball on a PVC pipe.

And luckily for that rain coat err... cloak and hood because it rained quite a bit at one point. And chased my visitors away. :[ (not that I had many this year anyway)

But I did meet a some interesting neighbors. (They might be new here since they didn't see my house last year) They asked me about LiveJournal and I realized I had been neglecting my duty of cluttering up the net with useless information. Ooooo, look, Nova's LJ lists swimming as an interest. Since I have the advantage of only been swimming for a little over a year, I have been seeking instruction, hoping to not develop any bad habits. Nova is also interested in karate, so I perhaps he will join us.

My new year's resolution is to prepare for Halloween far in advance. With no haunted house in town, *I* will be the haunted house in town.

Will I ever have many trick-or-treators
Are my props able to withstand a slight gust of wind
Will there be spooky greators
Tell me this I implore.
Quoth the raven, Nevermore.
---------------------------
"Diris Korv', Neniam plu."

    <lj:music>- creepy backwards playing music</lj:music>

I don't know how I found the page last night, but I ran across some cool flash animations (at http://www.newgrounds.com/). I watched one with a bunny who's half of his words are bleeped out, clames to have ninja skills and lazer eye beams. After I recoverd from laughing so hard I decided it was time to go to bed. But not after one last animation. That is when I found ...

Salad Fingers. (http://www.fat-pie.com/) Only to be watched in the dark, late at night, and when you are alone.

Now that I am taking Karate, I was thinking about the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Like which one had which weapon, how cool Splinter was, and such. donryu had this in his journal, so I just had to take it.

Wow. That was unexpected. That is the same turtle I would have picked. I even have a BO right here.

You scored as Donatello. You are intelligent and peaceful...maybe you should consider going into a different line of work. Even though you are friendly, you should try to fit in with other more often.

Donatello

89%

Raphael

61%

Leonardo

46%

Mater Splinter (The Rat)

36%

Michaelangelo

32%

April O'Neil

29%

</td>

Which teenage mutant ninja turtle are you?
created with QuizFarm.com

    <lj:music>"Blasphemous Rumors" - Depeche Mode</lj:music>

I have read a few posts, rants, and other things today. Dr. Frankenstein was compared to the people who run life support machines. (Perhaps he as the first builder of one? He needed fresh parts afterall). Dr. Jack Kvorkian was mentioned (Oh nevermind, Death is a privaledge, not a right). But all was right with the world when I heard this fammilar chorus:

"I don't want to start any blasphemous rumors
But I think that God's god a sick sense of humor
And when I die I expect to find him laughing."

Perhaps another quote for the day is required:
"Kio al unu donas forton, al alia donas morton."
